Meet Rapper Making Her Way, Naughtyy.
Heyyyyy!! It is ya girl Naughtyy with two y's cause I am extra. I am Cape Verdean. I was born in raised in Brockton, MA. I always had a passion and love for music since I was younger. It started when I used to play piano and go with my father to his performances, he had his band and they performed at different Cape Verdean events in MA. Then I pursued my musical journey. It began when I played the flute in a band and sang in the chorus. I feel like my biggest challenge was always finding my confidence, music has always been a part of my life like I said, but I feel like before I would deny it rather than embrace it. In high school, I would freestyle with my brother and friends for fun. Then when I went to college I suffered from depression and used to write music as an outlet. I remember being sick and at the university health services and I had to wait 3-4 hours to be seen, in the waiting room I wrote a song, and then when I went back to my dorm, I told my friend to come over so we could record. I recorded the song on Garageband and then dropped it on Soundcloud, it is still up because I love seeing my progress.
Q: Where did the name Naughtyy come from?
My real name is Nadia and my family always called me "Nadi". I feel like growing up I went through a bunch of phases with different nicknames and "Naughtyy" was the one that stuck. First off, there are two y's cause I am extra, and I say that because the actual word "naughty" is spelled with one y and has seven letters. But I love even numbers so I added an extra y to my name so it was not odd, I know extra right? lol. Naughtyy is honestly the alter ego that embraces being a star and is one of the most powerful versions of myself. For those who don't know, I constantly post about my 4 personalities, Nadi, Nadia, Naughtyy, and Esmirelda. Nadi is the family girl and only a few people get this version of me because she is the lover and does not have her guard up. Then there is Nadia who is the more calculated and decision-making version of myself, I call her the mastermind behind all the personalities. Nadia is more like HR when all the other personalities decide to act up it all falls on Nadia. Naughtyy is the Artist, the one everyone wants to be around and she is the creative but also the business woman always coming up with new ideas. Naughtyy is very confident in herself and all the desires and wishes she has. Esmirelda is a free spirit and is willing to do anything off of impulse without thinking about consequences. In most cases, this works out for Esmirelda because it is so much easier for her to talk to people and not care what anyone has to say. Esmirelda also loves to drankkkk lol .
Q: How did you feel when you first got behind a microphone?
OH man!! At my first show, I knew I was a different breed. Like I feel like my first performance I was not nervous and now when I am about to get behind the mic I sometimes get jitters. I come from performing because I used to have my own and be on dance teams in college. So getting on the stage and getting people's attention was never a problem for me. I fell in love with having all eyes on me and people watching and listening.
Q: What made you want to write the song “For the Nightt”? What is your favorite part of this song?
"For the Nightt"(you see the two t's, cause I am extra) is probably one of my most vulnerable songs. When I wrote that song I was in a space where everything felt so temporary and I just wanted to feel alive. In the hook, I am talking about a man just making me feel alive for the night. There are so many hidden bars in this song too I feel like I was trying to be very calm and simple with what I said but this song has so much meaning and will always have a special place in my heart. I love the hook on this song the most and the breakdown at the end. I love that I shared a different version of Naughtyy in this song, I would say this song is more like "Nadi"
Q: How do you feel about getting over 10,000 views in the first three months of this video release?
Seeing the numbers surrounding this song just told me to keep pushing. Like to look back at a year ago where I posted a video and it took a year just to get 3K versus 13K in three months just shows how much you can grow in a year. I will not stop now, its UP and its STUCK
Q: What do you like so much about TikTok? How do you feel about having over 18k followers?
Honestly, TikTok is so much harder for me now, after the pandemic, I felt like I was more consistent with posting but now I'm kinda lost in the algorithm. However, I am a big fan of Instagram reels and I have been making some way with posting and my numbers. Like I had a video go viral the other day and got 100K and I also got 300K when Ari the Don reposted the video I had with her.
Q: What was your most recent performance? What was it like?
My most recent performance was when I opened up for Toosii a month ago. This performance just made me feel back in tune with my purpose, especially with all the love I received. I am the only artist out here who has dancers who go with them to their shows and I am making it a point to only perform with my dancers now to provide value to my sets and give people what they came to see, and that's a SHOW!!
Q: How did your performance on High Dose TV come about? What did you like most about this experience?
Honestly, High Dose TV contacted me and it was like a week before I was about to drop my single "Casualtyy" and I thought it was the perfect opportunity to promote the single. I love doing live performances because I feel like people get to see how I feel about the song through my facial expressions and the way that I rap.
Q: How did you come up with the choreography for your performances? How long did it take you to learn it?
Honestly, my dance coordinator @honeyluvofficial comes up with the choreography herself, sometimes I am with her other times she does it alone. It only takes her a day to come up with a dance then I would like to practice with her the first day after she makes it so we both know the dance. From there she gets her dancers together and honestly, most of the practicing happens a couple of days before the show. I love to make sure my girls and I have good chemistry so when we do perform we are all comfortable and know that this is OUR show not just mine.
Q: What can you tell us about your EP you dropped titled 11:11?
My EP is called "11:11" and of course, it dropped in November 2022. The EP was originally supposed to be an album but I chose to continue my venture as an artist with EP's and Single because now a days people have a short attention span and I do not feel like there's a point to be dropping a fifteen song album unless you are like Lil Baby or something lol. So my EP consists of 4 songs, each of the songs you will hear my different personalities highlighted throughout the tracks. The EP is 8 minutes of me manifesting my wishes as an artist as well as showing people how different and versatile I am. I originally wrote 11:11 last year on November 11th and it was a completely different project. It was all drill songs because that is what people know me for, but instead, decided to do something different and stick with the harder trap style so people know I do not have to stick to one thing. I am very excited to drop this project and can't wait to see the outcome.
