Hip Hop Group PRLM CHLD
Q: How did you guys meet each other? What is the story of you coming together as a band?
A: We had mutual mentors. They were working with us as individuals and saw the vision. At first, there were five of us but only the strong survive!
Q: Where did the decision of what genre you guys would perform come from?
A: Hov- It comes from our different backgrounds and what we grew up listening to. We have Haitian/Jamaican Caribbean influences and we are also from Philly, home of the spittas and Neosoul! So we had to give you a blend of where we come from.
Q: How does your background influence your music?
A: Zu- All three of us were the PRLM CHLD in our own ways. I got kicked out of almost every one of my grade schools, my Dad is a pastor and I rap! Scottie comes from a hard-working half Jamaican family his brother was a straight-A student but he was more of a rebel! Hov is the middle child of five! She is coming from a Haitian family stepping out of some of the traditional ways to embrace herself and push the culture. So all three of us are rebels in our own ways and that connects us and fuels our music.
Q: How often do you guys try to spend in the studio?
A: Hov- We are artists, full time so, every day whether Pride is working on production or Scottie and I are writing. We are always working on something and getting better!
Would you like to be featured?
Q: What is something you guys like about working with each other?
A: Hov- Our different approaches on a record blends together so well. Pride and Scottie always gon hit you with a crazy flow or melody and I am always gonna come hard as well. Even when we are tired and have a long day we still have the same drive and goal. So it is easy to get stuff done when you have a great team and support one another.
Q: How do you touch on each one of your values and make it into one?
A: Zu- We talk about things that we experience. Sometimes we all have a different perspective and sometimes we all see things the same way. Regardless, we all stay true to ourselves so every time any of us speak we represent our values! We have different experiences but the same heart! We look to inspire anyone who was counted out and told they could not reach their dreams! That is what we value most!
Q: What is the motivation to keep you guys going?
A: Scottie- Honestly, the motivation is elevating our situations and being able to shift the culture in a positive way we all have been through so much separately and together. So it is important for us to share our story and how we overcame our hardships.. just tryna show the world that no matter what you are labeled you can be something.
Q: What is the most important part of your brand? Why?
A: Scottie- The most important part of our brand is the fact that we have all really been labeled problem children whether it was because we were going against the grain coming from Caribbean households or running around in the streets. We are forever pushing the energy of perseverance, being ourselves, and making our own path in the world cause we are all a PRLM CHLD one way or another.
Q: What is everybody's “part” in the band that you have created? How would you describe yourselves in one word?
A: Zu- Hov is the hook Queen! She always comes up with our favorite hooks and concepts! Scottie is the merch king! He designs all our merchandise and does a lot of our cover art and graphics. I produce and engineer our songs! Hov and I mix most over our records but recently added some new players to our team to help, with that s/o Ben Thomas! One word I would say describes us best is fighters! We continue to fight to be better daily! We fight generational curses, bad habits, social influences, comfortability, and so much more to push toward our dreams! We aim to inspire everyone else to do the same and connect with their purpose!
