Tank God - "Baccarat Mist"

Tank God’s newly released music video for “Baccarat Mist” is full of snapshots. The screen flickers and spins from one scene to the next, from a room wallpapered with cash to a woman sucking on a “Tootsie Pop.” The abruptly flashing images invoke an intense sensory experience, one that aligns with the lyrics of the song: “When I walk in the spot / I smell like grabba & baccarat.”

The video opens with a view of shoed feet exiting a car, followed by close-up shots of clasped hands and a woman’s sleek pink ponytail as two figures enter a barbershop. They pull open a bookshelf to reveal a white space behind it. As the white screen dissipates into color, the viewer becomes immersed not only in the energy of the song and its consistent rhythm but in the visual experience of the video itself. Each shot is saturated with alternating rich blue, red, and golden tones. Cash rains from Tank God’s hands, and often the viewer is oriented below the action. We watch from the ground as he looks down on us, sneakers stomping or money and grabba leaf landing on the scratched, transparent floor just above us. As the video continues, the transitions between shots grow faster, and the image of “baccarat mist” grows more prominent and even overt. Perfume bottles spin against a black background spattered with dynamic golden droplets. Green, blue, and multichromatic flashes of light flood every snapshot. The camera’s erratic movements and the rapid zooms in and out create both a disorienting and immersive experience—one that’s sure to capture your attention even more than the song alone.
