Producer and Artist Wes Tarte
Q: What does being a music director entail, especially for Dani Leigh?
A: As her music director, I got to make sure her show sets are in order. Whether it is a fifteen-minute set - an hour set, I gotta sit down and piece all of her songs together in a way that makes it entertaining when she performs live. Then when she is on stage, I am in charge of her mic/effects to make sure she sounds fire!
Q: Where do you get the ideas for your beats? How do you make one sound multiply into others?
A: God blesses me with dreams of melodies that echo in my head when I wake up. I got about a ten-minute window to start it before I lost it completely, then stuff also just pops in my head. I am very easily inspired, I can create anything at any time.
Q: What program do you like to work with the most and why? (ie. pro- tools, garage band, etc)
A: I only use logic pro x only because I have been using it for so long so I never switched up. I tried Ableton some years ago and it was nice but logic is my baby
Q: Do you ever give input on any lyrics? Why or why not?
A: With Dani, yes. We have been writing songs together since 2014. With other artists, only if it is welcomed
Q: How does it feel to work with an artist that has so much hype? What is it like for you to be in that light as well?
A: I knew this would happen since we first started working with each other years ago. She is a star. I have seen it in her since I first met her. So everything afterward was no surprise. I do not feel any different than when we were doing covers at the crib. Though it is a huge blessing, the work ethic or how we feel has not changed in the slightest.
Q: What are some ways that you challenge yourself?
A: A song/beat a day or do something that propels my career forward. I also made myself do a whole project from start to finish in a little over nine hours straight. It is called "The Nine Hour Project", check it out ;)
Q: What city has brought the most energy to a live performance?
A: Dang that is hard. It probably was UCF in LA or New Orleans
Q: Have you ever thought about dropping a mixtape of just beats? How about selling your beats? Why or why not?
A: Na. I am an artist first. I just know how to make fire beats hahaha. I will take my time with another artist if they are dope but for me to take time away from my artistry or Dani, you gotta be REALLY dope.
I actually have a song with Dani out now that we did together called "Pina Colada" check it out ;)
Q: What do you like the most about traveling?
A: The travel part lol. I am getting paid to sleep on planes/nice hotels and make my best friend sound good on stage haha. #Blessed
Q: What has your quarantine looked like?
A: Productive ;)
