Pierre Porter ft. Superstar Rah - “Nobody”
"A late-April release, Pierre Porter’s “Nobody," ft. Superstar Rah vibrates with energy and enthusiasm while lyrically grappling with themes of privacy within a relationship. Porter sings in the second person, directly addressing his love interest. The oft-repeated lines in the chorus serve as a representation of the song’s message: “Please don’t tell nobody yea / The way that I feel / Cause I don’t want nobody yea / I don’t want nobody yea / Knowing how I feel.” Rather than wanting to share their love with the world, the singer implores her to keep things under wraps. He doesn’t want anyone to know his true feelings, yet in private he makes promises to spoil her. These promises hinge on her discretion: “I’ll buy you that Birkin bag / And take you around the world / But that’s if you keep it low key.” The promise of a coveted designer bag establishes the singer’s wealth and authority within the relationship, yet his power is simultaneously stripped from him as he begs her to keep quiet.
Visually speaking, the music video adds little to the ‘plot’ of the song, but rather showcases both Porter and Superstar Rah as performers. Throughout the video, they stand closest to the camera and clutch microphones. Their hand motions are dynamic and impassioned as they sing each and every word. Both artists wear eye-catching suit jackets; Porter’s features a glinting metallic finish while Superstar Rah wears mustard yellow from head to toe. Both men also go hard on their accessories, from thick chains around their necks to statement sunglasses and rings. These stylistic choices help to highlight the artistry of their performance and maintain the audience’s attention. The studio setting features fake plants and cool blue lighting, which help to build ambience in what is otherwise a relatively casual and simplistic background. In one shot, Porter and Superstar Rah sit down on the couch behind them while continuing to sing. Despite their relaxed poses, they maintain their enthusiastic expressions and gestures. In addition to their steady eye contact with the camera, this casual vibe helps lend authenticity to the song. Ultimately, it’s about struggling to trust someone else: “I put my trust in you / So please don’t go break my rules.” While musically upbeat, this line captures the desperation at the heart of the song. Porter positions himself at the mercy of his partner—she has the power to transgress this boundary, even as he asks again and again for silence and discretion. "
