Jae Lynx - “Monkey In The Middle”

The opening shot for Jae Lynx’s Monkey in The Middle’ zooms in on a staticky television. In the song, Lynx talks about his less than ordinary life, and how the more his wealth grows the more his life resembles a movie. In an abandoned warehouse, he sits at a table with his squad of robbers.  “Shorty told me her ex mans up half a milli and I got the drop on him.” Backed by his group of loyal friends “Bet, let’s go get that shit right now.” They rob the unsuspecting house. They pull up to a house, armed with crowbars and at the ready with duffle bags for their loot and break-in.  They find the cash, stacks, and stacks of crisp clean hundreds, and revel in it. These scenes go hand in hand with his lyrics, “My life is rated R like a movie star”. In this plot-driven film-like music video, Lynx explores a life of crime that is almost cinematic in his grandeur this life gets him foreign cars, cash, and women. But in this life of crime he warns the title of the song, “ We gon’ rap em like a riddle riddle riddle. Don’t get caught like monkey in the middle, middle,  middle.” 

Monkey in the middle is backed by a mellow beat, fun, punchy lyrics, and memorable hook, Jae Lynx uses a plethora of witty rhymes to describe his come-up. “My bank been doing sit ups, sit up, sit ups.” Lynx makes it clear that he won’t stop until he gets the life that he envisions for himself. “Man on a mission I been going hard. used to sliding hundreds now I’m in foreign cars” everything he’s gotten he’s taken, whether fairly or by force.
